Investigation Post uses an AI Research Desk, built on Claude by Anthropic, to help our small newsroom keep up with the news. This page explains what it does and what it doesn’t do.
What the AI Research Desk does
- Each morning it searches the web for the most important public-interest story in each of our beats.
- It researches the story using public records and reputable reporting, and writes a draft that cites a source for every factual statement.
- It lists everyone named in the story so an editor can ask them for a response.
What it never does
- It never publishes anything. Every draft goes to our Admin, who checks it line by line before approving it.
- It does not invent quotes, interview anyone or contact anyone on our behalf.
- It does not accuse private individuals of wrongdoing.
How you can tell
Stories that began as AI drafts carry an “AI-assisted · Editor-verified” label at the top and a “How this story was made” note naming the editors who checked and approved it. Drafts with too few confirmed sources are discarded automatically.
