An Admin approves every story

Guest editors send their drafts to our Chief Editor, who reviews and edits them. The Chief Editor then sends stories to our Admin. Nothing is published until the Admin has checked it against a review checklist and approved it.

Every source is listed

Each story ends with a numbered list of the documents, records, data and interviews it relies on. The numbers in the text, like [1], link to that list, so you can check our work.

We ask before we publish

We contact the people and organisations we report on and give them a fair chance to respond. Their response, or the fact that they did not respond, appears in the story under “Right of reply”.

AI-assisted stories are labelled

Some stories begin as drafts from our AI Research Desk. They carry an “AI-assisted · Editor-verified” label and a note explaining how the story was made. Read our AI policy.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it and say so at the end of the story. See our corrections policy.
